Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
This procedure requires no stitches and has a fast recovery time
Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE is a virtually pain-free surgical technique in which hair is harvested from donor areas leaving only small, circular scars which are almost impossible to see.
The procedure requires no stitches and has a fast recovery time – so if FUE is the favored choice for patients needing hair-replacement surgery.
Although it can be combined with Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) surgery (see combination surgeries), FUE is often the solution offering the most natural looking results. Particularly for patients who want to avoid the linear scar associated with FUT and who want to resume their normal routine in the shortest possible time. It is especially popular with younger patients who like to wear their hair short.
What to expect from FUE treatment at Kensington Hair Clinic
FUE treatment is carried out under local anesthetic, typically alongside a low concentration of adrenaline which limits bleeding. Then between 1,000 and 3,000 follicle units / grafts are carefully harvested and transplanted from your donor to recipient sites.
An average 2,000 follicle / graft procedure takes between 8-10 hours, and so procedures needing more grafts are spread over two days. A procedure needing fewer grafts can be completed in as little as 6 hours.
Only 7-10 days after surgery the FUE scars are barely noticeable. And are fully healed – and virtually undetectable – after 6-7 weeks.
There are many options for successful hair restoration
The Kensington Hair Clinic’s experts fully assess each individual patient’s hair and scalp. Some may not be suitable candidates for FUE.
You may be more suitable for either FUT, a combination of FUT and FUE or a non-surgical treatment.
