Is a hair transplant painful?
A hair transplant surgery is done with minimal pain or discomfort. Any pain you might experience is generally from the local anaesthetic injections. When the local anaesthetic injections go in this will feel like a stinging sensation, however once the anaesthetic has taken effect the area will be numb and the surgery will commence.
During the extraction and incisions you may feel a light tugging sensation but no other pain. There may be some discomfort during the course of the surgery, you could be lying in one position for long periods and when the anaesthetic begins to wear off you may start to experience some very mild pain and discomfort. This will be managed by pain relief medication that will be provided in your post-op pack. There will also be the likelihood of some minor swelling and you may also experience some itchiness on the scalp. This can be managed by a medical grade water saline solution. The use of ice packs can also give relief to these symptoms.
