The Kensington Hair Clinic is lead by one of the best hair restoration surgeons currently operating in the United Kingdom, supported by an elite dedicated team.
Dr Shipu Zaman
General medical council reference no. 7082367
Dr Shipu Zaman has more than five years experience in cosmetic medicine and he is regarded as one of the most talented hair transplant surgeons in the UK having previously worked at multiple prestigious clinics.
Dr Zaman completed his medical degree at The University of Southampton in 2011 and since then he always knew he wanted to pursue a career in surgery. He explored his options during his senior years and completed posts in General Surgery, Ears Nose & Throat Surgery and a clinical fellowship role in Orthopaedic Surgery.
He stumbled across hair transplant surgery when he experienced the effects of androgenic alopecia himself while training to become a GP. He quickly became aware of how devastating hair loss can be to an individual and developed a specialist interest in the physiology of hair loss and went onto do further medical/surgical training in hair restoration treatment.
Dr Zaman’s artistry skills have enabled him to complete hundreds of successful hair transplant procedures. He spends considerable time and focuses on high density treatments for his patients and he is renowned for his nature mimicking skills. Permanent long lasting hair transplant treatments require technical, medical and artistic expertise; all of which Dr Zaman possesses. He has developed these over many years of experience and continued professional development.
He fully appreciates the life-changing impact of successful hair transplant surgery and continues to stay up to date in advanced hair transplant techniques as an active member of FUE Europe by attending conferences worldwide; an international society involved in the research of hair biology, pathophysiology and treatment.
He has worked at Dr Craig Ziering’s clinic in London where he has perfected his skills in treating both simple and complicated cases. Dr Zaman treats very extensive hair loss in men and women, transgender patients, burns/trauma victims, revision surgery, beards and sideburns.
Dr Zaman has a particular interest in the physiology of hair loss and specialises in hair loss prevention using non surgical methods of plasma therapy, oral medication and topical solution management. By combining both surgical and non-surgical approaches he is able to provide the most effective and highest quality treatment for hair loss currently available. At the Kensington Hair Clinic we believe he is one of the best hair transplant surgeons we have ever come across for his outstanding level of work and care towards his patients.

Personalised treatment plans
The first objective in consultation is to assess your hair loss – what you’re experiencing, how long it has been a problem, what you have tried to remedy it.
We are the experts, but your observations are indeed valuable, and we want to make sure we have all the information to hand prior to analysis. Secondly, we will listen to what you hope to achieve with hair restoration treatment, as we firmly believe in treating each patient as unique, and with individual desires – we don’t believe that every patient wants the same result, and by learning what you hope to achieve, we can manage expectations and often surpass them, depending on the course of treatment. Thirdly, we will conduct analysis on the hair and scalp (or the area to be treated), in order to assess:
- Natural hair loss
- Future natural hair loss
- The quality and density of natural hair
- Ratio between donor and recipient areas
- The effects of any previous treatment
- Healthiness of the scalp and hair
- Underlying medical conditions
- Age and overall health
- Hair characteristics, such as:
- Colour, and colour contrast
- Straightness or curl/wave
- Calibre & quality
Once we have carried out this analysis with the help of highly-specialised tools, we can assess your suitability for treatment, and how we can help you to achieve your desired result. It is important to remember that not all treatments are suitable for all patients, but our experts will provide you with all the information on why a treatment may or may not be ideal. We understand that most patients have been persuaded to buy expensive ‘quick-fix’ solutions for a condition they are unhappy with, so if alternative forms of therapy – such as medication – would be suitable, it is our policy to offer only the gold standard of non-surgical medical hair loss treatment – with proven results, not a vast array of lotions and potions at every price point. Using your own desires as a guide, our specialists will work to calibrate a course of treatment that will best get you where you want to be.
It’s about what you want from hair restoration treatment
If it is determined that hair restoration surgery, such as FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) or Combination Surgery is most suitable, we may also suggest additional tests to rule out any environmental or medical factors before the Kensington Hair Clinic specialist will advise on how it will be best achieved, based on the results you desire and the quality of the donor hair. We will calculate the number of grafts needed to your goals, discuss with you the pros and cons of undergoing treatment, and supply you with all the details to make an informed decision in your own time.
Which hair restoration treatment is best?
One of the main questions patients consider is whether FUE or FUT is the better option for them. Whilst the choice is often down to the individual, our experts may also be able to explain why one technique may be preferable over another, as not every patient is suitable for both. Each technique can allow for the same amount of hair follicles to be extracted, however it is important to note that in optimal conditions, FUT allows 4,000 – 5,000 follicular unit grafts to be extracted in a single procedure, however the maximum yield using FUE is between 3,000 – 3,500 at one time. This may mean that your hair restoration may take longer, be spread out over several days, or that a combination surgery – where both techniques are employed – would be best to generate the results you want.
